Dr. Rana Raddawi Wins CLI Teaching Award

Dr. Rana Raddawi received the CLI (Council on Language Instruction) Excellence in Language Teaching Award by the Dean of the Judd A. and Marjorie Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, Adrian Randolph, during the Weinberg Dean’s Awards Ceremony on Tuesday May 26th. She also was honored by the Council on Language Instruction on June 3rd.
During her distinguished career at Northwestern, Dr. Raddawi has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to excellence in language teaching. She is a highly effective and inspiring instructor, teaching with distinction at all levels of the Arabic curriculum. Dr. Raddawi has been an outstanding coordinator of the first and second-year sequences, fostering coherence and instructional excellence. Committed to curricular innovation, Prof. Rana was instrumental in the creation of the Arabic Minor. She has developed two advanced courses, one in translation and a literature seminar on the Arabic short story, thereby expanding opportunities for advanced study. Prof. Raddawi integrates technology to create inclusive and engaging learning environments. She also consistently enriches instruction with real-world learning and cultural engagement in local Arabic speaking communities to promote meaningful language use and intercultural competence. Students consistently praise her courses as engaging, supportive, and transformative, and her teaching evaluations rank among the very highest. Her impact as a teacher is also reflected in her selection on the ASG Faculty Honor Roll on three occasions. Beyond her teaching, Prof. Raddawi received a competitive three-year grant from the Buffett Institute for research on language and gender. This research led to several conference presentations and publications.
