The MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region stretches from Morocco to Iran. It is one of the linguistically most diverse regions with more than 60 languages being spoken throughout. The four most commonly spoken languages of the region are Arabic, the most widely spoken language in many of the MENA countries; Persian or Farsi, spoken in Iran and by significant Persian speaking populations in Afghanistan and the United Arab Emirates; Hebrew, primarily spoken in Israel and the neighboring countries; and Turkish, spoken in Turkey as well as in Cyprus. Although we teach these four languages as separate languages, we make a concerted effort to offer extracurricular activities that bring our language learners together to share what the regions and languages have in common and to discuss issues and news relevant to all.
