General advising, transfer and study abroad
ADVISING
Advising our students about choosing the right courses or study abroad programs as well as other things that matter to them is one of our most important tasks. Please reach out to the Director of the MENA Languages Program of any of the instructors in the program for help and /or advice.
- Transfer Students
- If you are a transfer student who has taken Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, or Turkish courses before, it is important that you speak with the Director of the MENA Languages Program before enrolling in a course. You may have transfer credits that we can accept and we want to make sure that you are not duplicating previous work.
- Study Abroad Students
- If you are a student who has studied abroad, it is important that you speak with the Director of the MENA Languages Program before enrolling in
, Hebrew, Persian, or Turkish courses. Please bring your study abroad transcript with you which you can obtain from the Study Abroad Office (or at least a list of courses and corresponding syllabi that you have taken abroad if the transcript has not come in yet). In addition, we will have you take the appropriate Placement Test to place you into the correct class.a Arabic

- Fulfilling The Foreign Language Proficiency Requirement with Study Abroad Courses
- If you want to use your study abroad course work to place out of the Foreign Language Proficiency Requirement, you will need to take the Foreign Language Placement Test regardless of whether you would like to continue with the language or not. Based on your results and a short oral chat with the appropriate language instructor, we will either confirm that you placed out or map out a written course plan with you for passing the Foreign Language Proficiency with additional course work. You need to have in writing from the Director of the MENA Languages Program that you have fulfilled the Foreign Language Proficiency Requirement.
