Akrem Karoui, was a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant through the 2023-2024 academic year, working with the Arabic language students. Originally from Bou Salem, Tunisia, Akrem holds a Research Master's degree in English Language, Literature, and Civilization from the University of Humanities and Social Sciences of Tunis. Akrem has taught at various colleges in Tunisia and internationally, and he has served as a translator for numerous non-profit organizations. Akrem is eager to engage with NU's academic and cultural communities, where he plans to celebrate Arabic culture, history, and literature, and act as a cultural ambassador.
Selin Tanis, was a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant through the 2023-2024 academic year, working with the Turkish language students. Selin is from Izmir, Turkey. She holds a BA in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and an MA in English Language Teaching from Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey. Selin has taught at English Language Programs at several universities and she has worked for some non-governmental organizations in Turkey. Selin is committed to serving as a cultural ambassador, and she is eager to work closely with our Turkish language students on an individual basis and to assist in the classroom.\
Fatima Alhammadi was a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant through the 2022-2023 academic year, working with the Arabic language students in the MENA Languages Program. Fatima was was raised in Sharjah, the cultural and literature hub of the United Arab Emirates. Her BA in English Language and Literature is from the American University of Sharjah. During her time at Northwester, Fatima familiarized American students with the Emirati culture, and she was instrumental to the success of Northwestern's Festival of Languages and Cultures in May 2023.
Munira AlWeteaid was a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant through the 2021-2022 academic year. Munira worked with the Arabic language students in our program. Munira is a native of Kuwait where she received her Bachelors in Translation and Linguistics from Gulf University, and she went on to complete TEFL in Barcelona, Spain as well as PCELT in Sharq, Kuwait. Munira worked closely with our many Arabic language students on an individual and group basis, and she was key to the success of NU's Festival of Languages and Cultures in May 2022. Munira believes that the influence of a good teacher can never be erased.
Cagla Nil Tas was a Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant throughout the 2021-2022 academic year. Cagla worked with the Turkish language students in our program. From Izmir, Turkey, Cagla held a Bachelors degree in English Language Teaching from Osmangazi University and several teaching certifications. Cagla spoke not only English and Turkish, but Italian and German as well. Our Turkish language students benefited immensely from Cagla's dynamic teaching style. Cagla organized authentic Turkish meals for the students and she was an incredible leader during NU's Festival of Languages and Cultures in May 2022.
