ABSTRACT

According to the Global Gender Gap Report 2021, The Middle East and North Africa remain the lowest in terms of gender equality with a 60.9% gender gap rate. Gender is a social and cultural construct, and gender roles are assigned by the society they belong to creating gender gaps and gender stereotypes. This chapter focuses on the effective role that intercultural communication education in the Arab world can play in helping reduce gender inequality in Arab countries. This research will emphasize the objectives of Intercultural Education (IC) in helping learners 1) understand better the other gender in terms of values, attributes and abilities 2) identify gender stereotypes, gender discrimination and prejudice and confront and act to avoid them. Educating individuals on the contextual meaning of these concepts and demonstrating to them the consequences of practicing gender discrimination can help reduce gender inequality in real life.
