Keegan is a PhD candidate in the Department of Anthropology at Northwestern, where he completed his MA and graduate certificates in MENA- and gender and sexuality studies. His dissertation research, based in Amman, Jordan, examines issues of language, gender, and sexuality within the contexts of LGBTQ activism and humanitarian work with refugees. He received his BA in Arabic and Spanish and Portuguese Studies from Georgetown University and has studied Arabic through scholarship programs in Egypt, Jordan, Morocco, and Oman. He is interested in incorporating anthropological approaches to culture and communication within Arabic language pedagogy.
